Setting Up Your Money Tracking, Guided from the First Question

Most finance apps hand you an empty account and a list of things to configure. SavingStat opens with an assistant that asks how you live and what you spend on, and builds the categories, budgets, wallets and income sources with you.

The hard part is the setting up, not the tracking

Every finance app starts the same way: an empty account, a blank category list, and a form asking for decisions you have not made yet. Which categories do you want. Which budgets. What are your accounts called, and what is in them. Most people answer three of those questions, put the rest off, and never come back to it.

SavingStat turns that form into a conversation. You describe how you live and what you spend money on, in your own words, and an assistant proposes the setup that matches: the categories you will actually use, budgets to group them, the wallets your money sits in, and the sources your income comes from.

One screen, and you watch the account being built

Setup is a single screen. The assistant asks its questions on one side, and on the other your account takes shape as you answer. A category appears the moment it is proposed, so you see the whole picture forming instead of clicking through steps and hoping.

Nothing is created while you talk. Every card on that screen is a draft you can rename, edit or delete, and you can add anything the assistant missed by hand. One button at the end creates all of it at once.

It explains each step as it goes

The assistant says what each part is before it proposes one, so you are never agreeing to a word you have not met. What a wallet is, and why every transaction belongs to one. Why a budget here is a container that groups spending and can be shared with someone else. What an income source is for.

If you do not know what to say, say that. It asks smaller questions instead: where you live, whether you rent, whether you drive, what most weekends cost you. Each answer narrows the setup a little further.

Invitations are settled before you finish

If somebody has already invited you to a budget or a trip, it is waiting for you on this screen rather than somewhere you have to go and find later. Accept it and you join, and your connection to the person who invited you is accepted at the same time.

The categories that budget already uses arrive with it as suggestions, so a household setup starts from the household's real categories instead of a blank list. You can invite your own people from the same screen by email, before they have an account of their own.

If you would rather fill in a form

The classic step-by-step setup is one link away at the top of the screen, and anything already proposed carries into it. Currency, categories, budgets and wallets arrive filled in, and you finish by hand. Neither route creates anything until you say so.

What you have when it finishes

An account shaped like your money: your categories, your budgets, your wallets, your income. The usual next move is to import one month of a bank statement and see whether those categories hold up against what you actually spent. Anything that landed wrong is renamed in a couple of taps.

Common questions

Do I have to use the assistant to sign up?

No. The classic step-by-step setup is one link away on the same screen, and anything the assistant already proposed carries over into it.

Does it create anything before I agree?

No. Everything proposed is a draft on the setup screen. Nothing exists in your account until you press the create button, and then all of it is created together.

How long does the setup take?

A few minutes of answering questions. You can also add categories, budgets and wallets by hand on the same screen if you would rather not type out your life.

What if the categories it proposes are wrong?

Rename or delete them where they sit, and add your own. Nothing is fixed afterwards either: categories, budgets and wallets stay editable once the account exists.

Somebody invited me to a shared budget. Do I set up first?

The invitation is waiting on the setup screen. Accepting it joins you to the budget, connects you to the person who invited you, and brings that budget's categories in as suggestions.
